Prayer of St Theresa by Margaret Rizza
Let nothing disturb you, nothing distress you.
While all things fade away, God is unchanging.
Be patient, for with God in your heart, nothing is lacking.
God is enough.
Read: John 17 ‘Jesus Prays for His Disciples’
He prays on behalf of the disciples; Jesus is praying for them, He is praying for his friends, those who belong to him, who are closest to him.
Jesus words are part of his farewell speech before he set out for Gethsemane to begin his passion. The disciples are sad. Jesus is going away. Their lives are about to change dramatically. In the course of the current pandemic we have all had to adjust and make changes in our lives.
As we consider our community of Wem, and pray on behalf of Wem, let us claim the promise that He is with us and with our community, and seek to find ‘God is enough’ as our lives continue to change as lockdown restrictions are eased.
The following sections (Churches in Wem, SS St Peter and Paul Church and The Community of Wem) contain suggestions for your prayers. You are not expected to include all of them – use a selection
Give thanks that Wem offers differing traditions for worship.
Pray for:
The leaders in each as they continue to offer inspiration in other ways; and wisdom in arrangements as restrictions are eased.

Has anything changed in your spiritual life -
Is there anything you have missed that now has greater importance or understanding?
THE COMMUNITY OF WEM
Give thanks for the wide variety of social clubs, events that take place.
Pray for recovery for our shops, businesses, cafes and pubs.
For the Town Council and their decision making.
For those in our congregation with key roles within the community.
Pray for the young people and children in the town:
• Give thanks for all the activities on offer for them and the volunteers who run them.
• Pray for our schools and the Boarding House.
For protection from any temptation to partake of substance abuse.
For individuals on our hearts
• Those affected by the Coronavirus -
• Those who come into your mind – give thanks for them and pray for them
Pray for the Medical Practice as they seek to treat patients with both physical and mental conditions and the extra pressure due to Covid-
CONCLUSION
Conclude with a prayer from Ffald y Brenin (a retreat centre in Pembrokeshire)
O high king of heaven
Have mercy on our land
Revive your Church
Send the Holy Spirit for the sake of the lost, the least and the broken.
May your kingdom come to our nation
In Jesus’ mighty name. Amen
