The Town and Parish marked Armed Forces Day with a well-attended Act of Commemoration at the War Memorial adjacent to our church.  For the previous week the Town’s Armed Forces Day Flag had flown on the Church Green and on the day itself a really good turnout made this a very fitting celebration.  The service was led by The Rector as Mayor’s Chaplain and Chaplain to Wem Royal British Legion. Our Mayor Councillor Connie Granger spoke warmly of Wem’s connections with the military, Councillor Edward Towers read the lesson, the uniformed organizations paraded with their flags and the Mayor symbolically presented a flag to the Chair of Wem Royal British Legion, Christine Saxton.

In his introductory words the Rector pointed out that:  “This is for us but one day specifically to hold in our thoughts and prayers what is a constant the whole year, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year – the often unseen yet constant professionalism, dedication, expertise and endeavour of our Armed Forces.  A day to remember our debt and our gratitude for the women and men of our military and all they continually do in their service of this land.”
