Restoration Appeal Fund

The Appeal was launched on the 2nd April 2011 with a band concert by the Wem Jubilee band with a target figure of £140,000 for work on the brickwork of the 14th century tower, the replacement of the cracked Tenor bell (in our peal of 8 bells) and restoration work on the Harrison & Harrison organ.   The timescale set for raising the money was 3 years and we managed to do that with two months to spare.

To achieve this we have held numerous concerts,  a flower festival which was well supported by local business sponsorship,  a sponsored abseil from the top of the 70 foot tower (the youngest participant was 7,  whilst the oldest was 77).   In addition,  two marathon 12 hour sponsored scripture reading events took place and two Christmas Silent Auctions at Palms Hill House were included with many other events.

We were also blessed by many generous individual donations together with grants of various sizes – from  the  L.J.C.,  Wem Town Council,  the Wemian,  the Shropshire Historic Churches Trust,  the Shropshire Bell Ringers Assn.,  and the All Churches Trust.

The P.C.C. and the Appeal Committee are extremely grateful for all the support,  large or small,  which we have received.
